This week, the Santa Monica Architectural Review Board considered CIM Group's proposal to construct a new medical research center at 1242 20th Street.
The project, which would rise in the City's Healthcare Mixed Use District, would consist of a three-story, 67,000-square-foot building seated atop five levels of subterranean parking. An existing two-story Tudor-style mortuary building, located adjacent to the project site, would be retained and incorporated into the new facility.
NMDA Architects is designing the low-rise structure, which would be set back from its historic neighbor through a series of terrace decks featuring outdoor seating.
A timeline for the proposed development is currently unclear.
