In Downtown Long Beach, work is complete for a makeover of a mid-century hotel at the intersection of 4th Street and Atlantic Avenue.

The City Center Motel, located at 255 Atlantic Avenue, was originally completed in 1962 as a roadside inn. A makeover led by Omgivning has refreshed the low-rise structure by replacing a parking lot with a landscaped courtyard centered around a swimming pool, and converting a check-in office into the new restaurant Olive & Rose. A second driveway has been converted into a new lobby and fitness center, while guest rooms have been maintained by refinished.

Paloma Communities, the developer of the property, has tapped Sonder to operate the 50-room hotel.

The design for the City Center Motel emphasizes its mid-century modern roots, using warm tones and textured surfaces, accented with greenery. Likewise, the hotel's original signage has been retained and refreshed.

Omgivning, which specializes in adaptive reuse, has previously worked on another Sonder-operated property - The Craftsman at 8th and Spring Streets in Downtown Los Angeles.
