East L.A. Community Corporation continues to move forward with plans for an affordable housing complex in El Sereno, with a release of the project's environmental study.
The Rosa de Castilla Apartments, a property at 4208 E. Huntington Drive South, would replace a commercial structure and a parking lot with a pair of four-story buildings featuring 85 residential units, 2,500 square feet of retail space and 68 parking stalls in a basement garage. Units in the proposed low-rise development would cater to households at the extremely low, very low, and low-income levels, as well as to seniors and disabled veterans.
Renderings of the project by FSY Architects portray a contemporary design with an exterior accented by metal panels. Open space would be provided through a garden and hiking trail built into a hillside at the back of the property.
