After one year, the concrete podium of a mixed-use apartment building is making slow, steady progress in Koreatown.
The project, which comes from Jamison Services, Inc., is now rising at the southwest corner of 8th and Berendo Streets. Plans call for a seven-story building that will contain 98 one- and two-bedroom apartments above 3,500 square feet of ground-floor retail space and semi-subterranean parking for 139 vehicles.
Architect Daryoush Safai is designing the mid-rise structure, which renderings portray with a contemporary look and an exterior of smooth stucco finish. Exterior units would be wrapped with metal-rail balconies.
Jamison Services, one of the largest commercial landlords and most prolific developers in Koreatown, broke ground earlier this year on a similar 131-unit project at the corner of 8th Street and Harvard Boulevard.
Another project with 193 apartments and retail is also planned two blocks east at the corner of Vermont Avenue and James M. Wood Boulevard.
