Shooshani Developers, LLC has announced the start of work at "The Place at The Streets," a new mixed-use development in Downtown Long Beach.
Protective fencing now encircles the project site, which was formerly home to a Walmart at 5th Street and Promenade North. Plans call for the construction of a four-story building featuring 20 apartments atop street-level commercial uses.
The Streets, formerly known as City Place, is in the midst of a multi-year renovation encompassing the entirety of the 350,000-square-foot district which is adding new retail offerings, office space, and open space.
“The Downtown area is now flourishing with new activity and growth. We are making every effort to create the right balance of work, eat, live and play at The Streets that will enhance the existing surroundings and appeal to today’s audiences,” said Tony Shooshani, Managing Member of Shooshani Developers. “Along with repurposing and enhancing of the shopping center we are repositioning the new district to offer a distinct resident, guest and employee experience that reflects and serves our evolving Downtown.”
The mixed-use apartment building is being designed by Urban Architecture Lab, with renderings portraying a contemporary low-rise structure clad with red and white panels.
