At a February 7 ceremony, Norwalk officials and Primestor Development marked the groundbreaking of "The Walk," a mixed-use development which will flank Norwalk City Hall.

“For many years, residents have shared that in addition to existing local dining and shopping, there is a need in Norwalk for more options and a central place to gather as part of everyday community life,” said Norwalk Mayor Jennifer Perez in a news release. “The Walk reflects that input by bringing dining, shopping, and entertainment together in one walkable public space. Inspired in part by the peacocks at nearby Paddison Farm, the community-led design celebrates Norwalk’s character while supporting local businesses and community connection.”

The project, which encompasses roughly 13 acres of land at Norwalk Boulevard and Imperial Highway, will replace surface parking lot and much of the Norwalk Civic Center's expensive front lawn with structures containing 374 homes (including 56 affordable units), 94,000 square feet of commercial space, and a new parking garage.

Site plan for The WalkPrimestor Development

DLR Group is designing The Walk which is shown in renderings with commercial uses located in an open-air setting toward Imperial Highway and Norwalk Boulevard, with housing in seven-story buildings toward the eastern part of the site. The project is expected to employ modular construction.

An environmental report circulated for the project estimated that construction would occur over a 24-month period.
