Framing is starting to rise for a wrap-style apartment complex at 1801 E. 4th Street in Santa Ana, according to a social media post from Westport Construction.

The project from Ledcor Properties, Inc., which acquired the property four years ago for $51 million, will consist of a pair of  five-story buildings wrapping a central parking structures. The completed development is to include 644 studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, atop 15,000 square feet of street-fronting retail and restaurant space. Approved plans also call for more than 1,300 parking spaces.

KTGY is designing the Central Pointe development, which will include rooftop amenity decks above the planned parking structures.

Work on the Central Pointe will be completed in phases.

The project is the latest in a recent series of large mixed-use development to rise east of Santa Ana's downtown neighborhood, including projects creating more than 900 affordable apartments along 1st Street. To the south near the Segerstrom Center in Costa Mesa, Santa Ana officials have recently approved plans for even larger developments which would replace aging shopping centers with high-rise residential and commercial uses.

Other Ledcor projects in Southern California include the Shoreline Gateway development in Downtown Long Beach.
