After two years of slow progress, the wrapping is off for a new mixed-use apartment building just east of MacArthur Park.
Located at 1930 W. 6th Street, the project consists of a podium-type building that willfeature 63 apartments above 1,200 square feet of ground-floor retail space and parking.
Although it was approved ministerially, the building design utilizes the Transit Oriented Communities guidelines to permit a larger structure than otherwise allowed by zoning rules. In exchange, seven of the new apartments will be set aside as affordable housing.
Los Angeles County Assessor's records list the owner of the development site as an entity affiliated with the Irvine-based real estate investment firm Sperry Equities.
The project sits a short walk from affordable housing developments recently completed at 437 and 619 S. Westlake Avenue.
