Five months after breaking ground on the project, developer Universal Standard Housing has already reached a key milestone in the construction of a new apartment complex near MacArthur Park.

The six-story building, located at 740 S. Alvarado Street, is being built from prefabricated modular units.  Universal Standard Housing assembled the modules over a six-day period in early July.

The project, which is scheduled for completion in November 2020, will include 80 apartments - with nine reserved for extremely low-income households - above 4,000 square feet of retail and a small parking area upon completion.

Rents at the building will start at $1,600 per month.

The Architects Collective is designing the development, which will offer a mix of one- and two-bedroom floor plans.  The building will also offer some on-site amenities, including a rooftop deck with views of the surrounding area.

Universal Standard Housing, which is based in Los Angeles, has previously developed modular housing in Leimert Park.  That project, located at 4252 Crenshaw Boulevard, opened in late 2019.

The company's next project, slated for a property on Main Street in Chinatown, would include 244 apartments with ground-floor commercial uses.
