In-N-Out plans new restaurant at 2927 Sepulveda Blvd. in Rancho Park

After hitting unexpected resistance in a bid to build a new outpost in Culver City, In-N-Out has set its sights on a restaurant in a different part of the Westside.

Earlier this month, In-N-Out filed plans with the City of Los Angeles to raze a stretch of commercial buildings at 2927-2969 Sepulveda Boulevard in Rancho Park to allow the construction of a new 3,890-square-foot restaurant with a drive-through.

The project will require approval of a zone variance to allow continued use of residential-zoned land at the rear of the property, which sits in the shadow of the 405-10 interchange, for parking. A conditional use permit will also be required to allow a drive-through adjacent to a residential property.

The site of the proposed In-N-Out was once home to a location of another storied Southern California burger chain - Hamurger Hamlet. Similarly, an adjacent strip mall to the south houses Hamburger Habit. The longtime staple has advertised its KABC 790 title of "Best Hamburger in Southern California" since it was bestowed during the time of the Clinton administration.

Other projects in the near vicinity include a recently-approved plan for housing on a property across the street at 2930 Sepulveda Boulevard.
