Yesterday, FMB Development held an official groundbreaking ceremony for a new mixed-use complex near the L.A. Live complex in South Park.

The property, located at 1317 S. Hope Street, will yield a seven-story building featuring 38 apartments - including six units of very low income housing - above 4,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space.  Plans call for studio and one-bedroom units, as well as two penthouse apartments, complemented by amenities such as a rooftop deck.

DE Architects designed the podium-type building, which renderings portray in a contemporary style.

Jade Enterprises is already in the midst of construction on the Onyx apartments across the street.
