Lamp Lodge, a single room occupancy building in Downtown Los Angeles, will be redeveloped as a larger apartments complex.

An application was submitted yesterday to the Department of City Planning to demolish the existing three-story building at 660 S. Stanford Avenue and construct a six-story development with 82 apartments and a parking garage in its place.  All existing tenants would be relocated prior to a groundbreaking for the project.

The proposed development comes in advance of next week's vote on Measure S, which would permanently restrict the City's ability to grant general plan amendments, zone changes and other variances.  Although the proposed law would allow variances and zone changes for 100 percent affordable developments, they would still be restricted from pursuing general plan amendments.

The project at 660 Stanford has requested a general plan amendment.

Skid Row Housing Trust and the Weingart Center have also filed plans for nearby developments in advance of the March 7 election.
