Nearly one year after we last dropped by in Mid-Wilshire, a new neuropsychiatric hospital for UCLA Health continues to take shape at the former site of the Olympia Medical Center.
Located at 5900 Olympic Boulevard, the $400-million project represents both an expansion of and replacement for the 74-bed Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at the main UCLA hospital campus in Westwood. The new facility will contain 119 beds, all catering to patients facing mental and behavioral health problems. Other functions will include food service, imaging, a pharmacy, labs, and administrative offices.
HOK and McCarthy Building Companies headline the design-build team for the new hospital, which includes new construction, but also retains existing buildings that previously comprised the Olympia Medical center.
The complex will have a contemporary appearance, and incorporate therapy spaces on each floor, as well as rooftop terraces and gardens at the ground level for use by both patients and staff.
Completion of the new hospital is on track to occur in 2026, according to a project website.
