Broadway isn't the only Downtown thoroughfare getting a pedestrian-friendly makeover.

Earlier this month, city officials descended on the Fashion District to celebrate the groundbreaking of a streetscape improvement project that will upgrade three blocks of Los Angeles Street between 7th Street and Olympic Boulevard.

The $1.7-million project was funded by a grant from Metro, and includes:

  • Removal and replacement of broken and sub-standard concrete sidewalks on both side of Los Angeles Street.
  • Removal of 12 trees, which will be replaced with 26 new trees.
  • Upgrades to 14 non-standard access ramps, including 4 at bumpouts.
  • New high-visibility cross walks at four intersections.
  • Two landscaped mid-block bumpouts with decorative lighting, planter fencing, paving, drought tolerant plants and access ramps.
  • Improved pedestrian lighting at six bus stops, with existing light fixtures upgraded with LED bulbs.
