San Diego-based developer Affirmed Housing Group has broken ground on another supportive housing complex in South Los Angeles

The project, located at the southwest corner of 120th and Main Streets, is called the Dahlia.  Plans call for the construction of a five-story building featuring 56 studio and one-bedroom apartments reserved for formerly homeless persons earning 30 percent or less than the area median income.

Togawa Smith Martin is designing the project, which would step down in height as it approaches its southern property line.  In addition to housing, the low-rise structure will include a laundry facility, a community room, an outdoor amenity deck, and on-site supportive services provided by Homeless Health Care LA.

The development is financed in part for $9.8 million in low-income housing tax credit equity provided by Boston Capital.


The project site is located less than a mile southeast of a similar supportive housing development planned by Clifford Beers on Imperial Highway.

Dahlia is the third supportive housing complex from Affirmed Housing to break ground in the City of Los Angeles, following the Cambria apartments in Westlake and the Emerson apartments in East Hollywood.
