Earlier this week, nonprofit developer Skid Row Housing Trust celebrated the ground opening of the Crest Apartments, a new permanent supportive housing complex in Van Nuys.

The project offers 64 homes which are reserved for homeless individuals who frequently utilize the services of the L.A. County Department of Health Services' emergency care services and veterans.

The five-story building, certified LEED Platinum by the U.S. Green Building Council, was designed by Michael Maltzan Architecture.  It features an arched form stretching across the length of the narrow property at 13604 Sherman Way, with lush landscaping and community spaces below.

The Crest Apartments are just the second development for Skid Row Housing Trust outside of Downtown Los Angeles.
