Plans to redevelop the site of a shuttered school in Duarte continue to inch forward, with the release of a draft environmental study for the project.
The project site at 1433 Crestfield Drive was formerly home to the Andres Duarte Arts Academy, which closed in 2022 due to low enrollment. Through a lease agreement with the Duarte Unified School District, developer Crestfield Townhomes, LLC is seeking approvals to redevelop the property with 25 three-story structures, creating a total of 169 townhomes and parking for 338 vehicles.
According to plans, the homes are to come in a mix of three- and four-bedroom floors plans, ranging from 1,358 to 1,526 square feet in size.
The overall project site spans 14 acres, and also includes the Otis Gordon Sports Park site, which would be partially redeveloped, but retained as park space. The 6.3 acres of park space, located to the western side of the property, is to include sports fields, picnic tables, restaurants, an outdoor gym, walking paths, and a dedicated parking lot.
Should the City of Duarte approve a general plan amendment and a zone change, construction remains on track to place over a 29-month period starting in April 2026 and concluding by September 2028.
