Chinatown's College Station development has taken another step forward - albeit in slightly smaller form.
The proposed mixed-use complex, which comes from New York-based developer Atlas Capital Group, would bring residential units and retail space to a vacant five-acre property at the corner of College and Spring Streets. According to a final environmental impact report published last week by the City of Los Angeles, the project now calls for the construction of 725 residential units - down from an earlier proposal for 770 apartments - and approximately 50,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial uses.
The revised plan cuts plans for street-fronting townhomes, as well as a reduction of on-site parking from 1,179 spaces to 907 spaces.
Johnson Fain is designing the project, which will retain the same height and layout despite its diminished residential component. Renderings show a contemporary six-story complex with a collection of interconnected internal courtyards at its podium level.
Construction of College Station is ancitipcated to occur over 43 months, though a groundbreaking date has not been announced for the project.
This is the second time that Atlas Capital has revised its plans for the Chinatown project, which previouly included a pair of 20-story towers.
