Aragon Properties Corporation has taken another step forward with its plan to construct a mixed-use development at Sunset Boulevard and Everett Street in Echo Park, with the project set to go before the Los Angeles City Planning Commission next week

The project, which would replace a handful of small commercial and residential buildings, calls for the construction of two apartment buildings that would contain a total of 204 dwelling units - including 15 designated as affordable housing - with 11,334 square feet of ground-floor retail space and parking for up to 294 vehicles.

KTGY Architecture + Planning is designing the five- and six-story buildings, which will include a mix of studio, one- and, and two-bedroom units, in addition to small lot homes fronting Everett Street.  Plans also call for a series of rooftop terrace decks.

Previous city reports point to an approximately 21-month construction timeline for Sunset and Everett, although a groundbreaking date has not been announced.

The Planning Department's staff report recommends that the Planning Commission approve Aragon's project.

Though Sunset Everett has long been the largest development planned in the area, it is dwarfed by a proposal from another local real estate firm.  Earlier this year, Los Angeles-based Palisades announced plans to construct a series of high-rise and mid-rise buildings at the former headquarters of the Metropolitan Water District at 1111 Sunset Boulevards.  A full buildout of the project would create 778 housing units and a boutique hotel.
