A proposed apartment building that would rise just south of Hollywood's Target Husk has encountered a familiar foe: the neighborhood activist and attorney that stopped the proposed big-box store in its tracks.
Wiseman Residential, the owner of a vacant lot at 1276 N. Western Avenue, has proposed the construction of a six-story building featuring 75 apartments on the site. Plans call for a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units - of which seven will be set aside as affordable housing - and parking for up to 108 vehicles.
Uriu & Associates, which frequently works with Wiseman, is designing the podium-type building.
An appeal of the project to the City Planning Commission filed Doug Haines, Leo Valenzuela, Ed Hunt, and George Abrahams - with representation by Robert Silverstein - argued that project's environmental study failed to analyze issues such as traffic congestion and freeway pollution. It also contended that a city ordinance which restricts appeals of density bonus projects to adjacent property owners and residents denies due process to the appellants of 1276 N. Western Avenue.
The Commission ultimately voted to deny the appeal at a meeting last month.
An appeal by the same group of a nearby development at 1350 N. Western Avenue was continued to a later meeting of the Planning Commission.
