The San Fernando Valley community of Winnetka could get a new connection to the Los Angeles River, should a proposal from 3rd District Councilmember Bob Blumenfield gain traction.
Last August, Blumenfield submitted a motion to the City Council that which requests that various City departments explore the feasibility of converting a vacant 5,000-square-foot lot at 19941 W. Haynes Street into public green space, with an entrance to the West Valley Bike Path.
The parcel is currently controlled by the Department of General Services, and sits atop a man-made ravine which allows stormwater to flow into the L.A. River.
The motion requests a report of the feasibility, cost estimates and maintenance needs for converting the property into a park. It was approved earlier today by the Council's Arts, Parks and River Committee.
