Architectural plans posted by the Van Nuys Neighborhood Council offer a first look at a proposed multifamily residential complex near the neighborhood's Metrolink commuter rail station.
The project, which would replace a single-story commercial building at 7644-7658 Van Nuys Boulevard, calls for the construction of a five-story edifice containing 124 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments - including 13 extremely low-income affordable units - above semi-subterranean parking for 126 vehicles.
Ken Stockton Architects is designing the contemporary podium-type building, clad in stucco. Floor plans show that the project would have a U-shaped footprint above its podium level, with space for a courtyard-level swimming pool and a landscaped roof deck.
City records list the project applicant as Shlomi Asiss, a local investor who is developing a similar apartment complex in the Sun Valley neighborhood.
The proposed development follows on the heels of a similar apartment building now under construction across the street. That five-story building, located at 7639 Van Nuys Boulevard, will feature 36 residential units.
Metrolink recently wrapped up construction on a $32-million upgrade of the adjoining commuter rail station which added center platform and a pedestrian undercrossing.
