Architecture firm Carrier Johnson + CULTURE is designing the Hartford Villas apartments, a new affordable housing complex from SRO Housing Corporation.

The project, located at 459 S. Hartford Avenue in Westlake, would consist of a six-story building featuring 101 studio apartments, priced for households make 50 percent or less than the Los Angeles area median income.

A rendering portrays a contemporary mid-rise building, which employs different colors and materials to break up its facade.

Plans call for amenities such as a community kitchen, a lounge, a computer area and on-site case management.
