Just east of Hermon Park, construction has come to a close at a colorful mixed-use apartment building from local development firm 4Site Real Estate.

The project, located at the southwest corner of Avenue 60 and Monterey Road, consists of a three-story structure containing 13 four-bedroom apartments - accompanied by amenities such as a courtyard, a gym, a swimming pool - above ground-floor commercial space and a parking garage.

Warren Techentin Architecture designed the apartment building, which is clad in an array of fiber cement shingles which are painted blue to give texture to the facade.  According to the firm's website, the mass of the structure slopes away from Monterey Road and Avenue 60 - with inset frames wrapped with colorful accents - and also scales down next to the adjoining park.

The Eastsider, in its coverage of the project, describes the facade as looking "like a Minecraft rendering of water."

4Site Real Estate - which is based near Downtown - has developed a slew of similar mixed-use and multifamily residential buildings in Central Los Angeles, including a new hotel and apartment complex now rising in Lincoln Heights.
