Architecture firm Studio T-Square 2 has announced the completion of the 442 Residences, a multifamily residential development in Downtown Long Beach.

The project, located at 442 W. Ocean Boulevard, was developed by Ensemble Real Estate Investments.  The completed development consists of a seven-story building featuring 94 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments above a podium parking structure.

The building shares a nearly two-acre campus with 444 West Ocean, an adjacent 15-story office tower which is also owned by Ensemble, allowing access to ground-floor retail space fronting Ocean Boulevard to the north.

“Our design inspiration evolved from Long Beach’s architectural heritage, using the Mid-Century modern theme as a way to create cohesion with the neighboring office tower," said Henry Tong, a Studio T-Square 2 Principal.  "We referenced the tower’s bold structure, strong vertical lines, and red accents, so that the buildings appear to be extensions of each other. The 442 Residences roof deck and the general massing of the building were intended to recall a cruise ship – a nod to Long Beach as a port city."

In addition to a rooftop deck, other project features include a fitness center, a club room, and a dog run.

The 442 Residences are located a block south of the Long Beach Civic Center, which recently completed the first phase of a $520-million modernization which includes a new City Hall and headquarters for the Port of Long Beach.

The Crest, another Long Beach project from Ensemble and Studio T-Square 2, is scheduled to open in September at 207 Seaside Way.
