Next week, the Los Angeles City Planning Commission will consider an appeal against a proposed multifamily residential development just south of Pico Boulevard.

The project, located at the northeast corner of Hi Point and Pickford Streets, calls for the demolition of three single-family dwellings and a two-story apartment building to make way for a four-story edifice featuring 45 residential units over one level of underground parking.  Plans call for 41 market rate units and four apartments set aside for very low-income households.

Architect Valentine Janev is designing the low-rise development, which would be oriented around a central courtyard.

The Planning Department's staff report recommends that the appeal of the project be denied.

Two similar apartment buildings are now underway one block north at Saturn Avenue.
