The website of Little Tokyo Service Center offers a first look at a mixed-use affordable housing development planned at the Metro's Vermont/Santa Monica Station.
The project, which would rise on 1.5 acres of Metro- and LTSC-owned property fronting Vermont Avenue, Santa Monica Boulevard, and New Hampshire Avenue, somewhere between 160 and 200 residential units and between 15,000 and 20,000 square feet of ground-floor space for retail uses and social services.
The proposed development will cater to households earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income, with half to be set aside for homeless individuals and families.
Renderings show a contemporary six-story building which wraps around the Vermont/Santa Monica station plaza.
Metro and LTSC are currently in the midst of an 18-month exclusive negotiating agreement for the property, during which time LTSC is undertaking public outreach for the project. A joint development and ground lease for the Vermont/Santa Monica site is anticipated in summer 2019.
LTSC is also partnering on a proposed affordable housing development next-door to the Japanese American National Museum, and is currently in the midst of construction on the Terasaki Budokan - a multi-purpose sports and recreation center.
