A tipster sends word that a mixed-use development that incorporates the facade of a historic building has broken ground in Hollywood.

Located at 6630-6634 Sunset Boulevard, the project will consist of a six-story building, featuring 35 apartments and approximately 5,000 square feet of ground-level commercial space.  Plans call for a mix of studio and one-bedroom dwellings, in addition to communal amenities such as a roof deck and a 49-car parking garage.

David Kellen & Associates and Ken Stockton Architects are designing the podium-type building, which was retooled in 2015 to retain the facade of a Streamline Moderne office building at 6634 Sunset, which was built in 1927.

The project is tied to A.J. Khair, a Los Angeles based development and construction firm.
