Following the adoption of the West Adams - Baldwin Hills - Leimert Park Community Plan and the Mobility Element of the General Plan, the South Robertson Neighborhood Council made several recommendations for the revitalization of commercial corridors linking the community with the Expo Line's Culver City Station.  These recommendations may have gained teeth, thanks to a pair of motions from L.A. City Council President Herb Wesson and 5th District Councilmember Paul Koretz.

The first motion calls for "reimagining and re-engineering" Robertson Boulevard between Culver City and Pico Boulevard as a complete street, connecting existing pedestrian-priority segements of Robertson and National Boulevards.  The proposed actions could include a shift of on-street parking along Robertson to a city-owned parking lot, thereby freeing space for additional pedestrian space or other traffic calming measures.

The second motion calls upon the Los Angeles Planning Department to report on potentially rezoning National Boulevard and Cattaraugus Avenue between Robertson and Venice Boulevard to facilitate mixed-use developments, similar to those now taking shape in Culver City.  Commercial property owners along Robertson Boulevard could also be allowed to annex adjacent R2-zoned sites to the south in order to create deeper development sites.

Moving forward, the first motion will be referred to the Los Angeles City Council's Transportation Committee, while the second will be heard by the Planning and Land Use Management Committee.

The Planning Department is also in the process of forming the more expansive Expo Corridor Transit Neighborhood Plan, which will govern future land use surrounding new rail stations between Culver City and Bundy Drive.
