The Ritz Milner Hotel, a longtime establishment in Downtown's bustling South Park neighborhood, is pursuing a modernization project that would add 21st century amenities to the early 1920s building.

According to an upcoming presentation to the Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council's Planning and Land Use Committee, owner 813 South Flower Street Associates, LLC has applied for a conditional use permit that would allow for an expansion of existing alcohol sales to common spaces in the 12-story building's basement, ground-, second- and roof levels.  The proposed rooftop cafe lounge relies on the "creative re-use" of an existing utility structure, and will offer covered and uncovering outdoor casual dining, located away from nearby residential developments.

El Segundo-based Rockefeller Partners Architects is designing the project, which is shown in renderings to include the restoration of the building's ground floor and a paint job for the upper levels.

Construction permits were issued for the 180-key Milner in 1923, which has been in operation as a hotel ever since its opening.
