Nine months after we last dropped in, steel framing is complete and facade details are starting to be unveiled at The Park, a mixed-use development now under construction in Downtown Santa Monica.

The project, a joint venture between Witkoff and New Valley, LLC, replaced a shuttered Fred Segal store at 5th Street and Broadway with a new seven-story edifice that will feature 249 apartments above 55,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space and a basement parking garage.

Koning Eizenberg Architecture is designing The Park, which will include multiple courtyards at street level that provide open space for use by commercial and residential tenants.  The project's name derives from a landscaped amenity deck planned at the building's roof level.

At the time of The Park's groundbreaking nearly two years ago, completion was expected by late 2021.

The apartment complex could be a prelude to come for a busy stretch of 5th Street in Santa Monica.  One block north, local developer WS Communities is planning five similar mixed-use buildings along between Broadway and Arizona Avenue.

Witkoff and New Valley, LLC's previously partnered to develop an Edition Hotel with branded condominiums on the Sunset Strip.
