Earlier in 2019, LaTerra Development broke ground on a mixed-use apartment complex a short walk west of Barnsdall Art Park. Now, the Century City-based firm is working on a similar project directly across the Street.
The new construction, located at 4850 Hollywood Boulevard, will consist of a six-story structure containing 96 rental units above approximately 9,500 square feet of ground-floor retail space and parking for 167 vehicles.
Urban Architecture Lab is designing the mixed-use project, which will have a U-shaped footprint above its podium level, providing space for a central courtyard. Additionally, the building will feature a setback at its sixth floor, preserving view corridors from Barnsdall Park while also creating a space for an amenity deck.
LaTerra's second project, which broke ground in the first half of the year at 4900 Hollywood Boulevard, will consist of a larger five-story edifice featuring 150 apartments - including 24 affordable units - above a podium containing 13,000 square feet of retail and parking space.
At the time 4900 Hollywood began construction, completion was expected in 18-to-24 months.
LaTerra is developing multiple mixed-use and multifamily residential buildings in the Los Angeles area, including projects in Downtown, Santa Monica, and Mar Vista.
Other projects in the works near Barnsdall Park include a proposed eight-story, 153-unit apartment complex on Maubert Avenue.
Barnsdall Park is best known as the home of the Hollyhock Park, a 1920s single-family home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright which was recently added to the UNESCO World Heritage List - the first building in Los Angeles to receive such an honor.
