A year after the completion of the project's initial phase, work is now underway for the second half of the redevelopment of the Rose Hill Courts public housing complex.
The nearly $58-million project from Related California, located at 3521 N. Mackenzie Avenue, calls for the construction of seven total building featuring 96 units of affordable housing. The complex will also include a new community building, a basketball court, and other common outdoor features.
BSB Design is the architect for the project, continuing its involvement from the initial phase.
The first component of the Rose Hill Courts redevelopment, located on an adjoining site at 4446 Florizel Street, consists of 100 apartments in a podium-type building.
The project, which is rising on property owned by HACLA, is slated for completion in 2027. Phase two will finalize the redevelopment of the original Rose Hill Courts complex, which included 100 apartments when completed in the 1940s.
HACLA, through partnerships with various developers, is in the process of redeveloping several of its public housing complexes, including Jordan Downs in Watts, and Rancho San Pedro.
