The Community Corporation of Santa Monica is pursuing the development of a new senior affordable housing complex just south of the 10 Freeway.

The proposed three-story edifice, slated for a 15,000-square-foot site at 1820 14th Street, would replace a series of smaller commercial buildings with 39 apartments reserved for low-income seniors.  Plans also call for a ground-floor community room, a laundry facility, a library, and one level of underground parking for 10 vehicles.

DE Architects is designing the low-rise structure, which would feature exterior finishes such as fiber cement panels and plaster.  Open space amenities are proposed in the form of a ground-level courtyard and a rooftop deck.

A timeline for the project has not been revealed.

The non-profit Community Corp. has built and restored affordable housing throughout Santa Monica.  One of their ongoing projects is the Arroyo, a five-story, 64-unit development funded by the developers of a market-rate project at 500 Broadway.
