Two blocks south of the Covina Metrolink Station, construction has commenced for a new senior affordable housing complex.
The project, which is being developed by Community HousingWorks and Laing Companies, will rise from a property located at 233 N. Second Avenue. Plans call for the construction of a six-story building featuring 60 apartments on a site offered for redevelopment by the State of California.
The complex is to consist of one-bedroom units, all reserved for adults aged 62 and up who earn between 30 and 70 percent of the area median income level. That total includes 15 units for residents with vision impairments.
In addition to housing, the property will provide services to residents including case management, benefits assistance, and wellness checks. On-site amenities will include a club room, a courtyard, a library, common laundry facilities, and parking for 27 vehicles.
The project team includes general contractor Walton Construction. Design work comes from TCA Architects, with Agency Artifact as landscape architect. Kimley-Horn and Building One are also consultants to the project. Financing sources include state and local sources, as well as First Citizens Bank.
According to a project website, an interest list for the apartments will open in 2028.
