Local developer Thomas Safran & Associates is in the midst of construction for a senior affordable housing complex in Willowbrook, near a busy transfer station between Metro's Blue and Green Lines.

The Gateway at Willowbrook, now rising from a formerly vacant plot at 11737 Wilmington Avenue, will consist of a five-story building featuring 105 income-restricted units.  Plans call for a mixture of one- and two-bedroom floor plans, with rents up to $949 per month.

Renderings displayed on an official website portray a contemporary mid-rise structure adorned with a rooftop clock.

Completion is expected in Winter 2017.

County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas has recently pushed to reenvision the Willowbrook - Rosa Parks Station, as well as its surrounding properties.  Most notably, the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital has reopened as a modern facility, shedding its old moniker of "Killer King."
