Built on a .82-acre property at 1613 W. Manchester Avenue that was formerly a surface parking lot for Southside Church of Christ, the project consists of a five-story building featuring 50 studio and one-bedroom apartments reserved for very low-income seniors as well as parking.

“Nearly three years ago we announced the ground breaking of what has truly been a public-private partnership,” said John Stanley, Inc. president Saki Middleton in a news release. “Through hard work on behalf of the city, CCCI and my team at John Stanley, we are proud to finally unveil Serenity to the community. This will be more than just a building, it will be a home for previously unhoused seniors and will provide the community critical support services, enhancing their individual lives and the quality of the neighborhood.”

The project was built with a more than $9-million Measure HHH loan, $5-million in HOME funds and over $23-million in bonds. Additionally, vouchers provided to the project help to provide housing for 36 homeless seniors.

BSB Design is designed Serenity, which also includes 1,700 square feet of ground-floor commercial space, a courtyard on the third floor, a gym, and other common amenities.
