After more than two years of slow progress, the wood frame of a large multifamily residential complex is now rising quickly in Warner Center.

The project, located at 6041 Variel Avenue, will consist of a seven-story edifice featuring 263 apartments above parking for 485 vehicles.  A total of 11 live/work apartments will front Variel Street.

The contemporary podium-type building is designed by Togawa Smith Martin.

The project's developer, BCEGI International Company, is developing the apartment complex as the first phase of a two-component development.  Entitlements would also allow for the construction on a 12-story office tower adjacent to the new housing.

A similar apartment complex called Vela on Ox, which is also to be accompanied by an office building, opened on a nearby property in 2018.

Construction is currently underway for a 174-room Home2Suites by Hilton one block south and the Q Variel apartments one block north.
