Another permanent supportive housing development is prepping for construction in Watts.

Watts Works, which will rise from the former site of a vacant home at 9502 S. Compton Avenue, is being developed as a joint venture between Decro Corporation and Daylight Community Development Corporation, and The People Concern.  Plans call for the construction of a four-story building featuring 25 apartments - including 24 supportive units priced at the very low-income level.

The People Concern will offer on-site supportive services for residents, including counseling, community-based healthcare, treatment, and employment training.

Studio One Eleven is designing the proposed development, which would be composed of prefabricated modular units - a building material which can speed construction timelines and lowers costs.  Renderings depict a contemporary low-rise structure with a street-fronting courtyard, a rooftop deck, and green staircases lining its exterior.

Per a landing page on the Decro Corp. website, funding for the more than $8.6-million project comes from a variety of local and private sources, including Los Angeles County, the City of Los Angeles, Arixa Capital, and Genesis LA.

The three partners on Watts Works are behind numerous other affordable and permanent supportive housing developments in Los Angeles County.

Daylight has four similar projects in pre-development in the San Fernando Valley, as well as new housing planned in Harvard Heights and Downtown Los Angeles.

Decro Corp. broke ground last year on a supportive housing development near Vista Hermosa Park, and is planning a mixed-use building in near Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center in Lincoln Heights.
