More than a year after breaking ground, a multifamily residential development from Safco Capital is starting to rise above ground in East Hollywood

The project, which replaced a strip mall at the southwest corner of Melrose and Ardmore Avenues, will consist of a six-story edifice featuring 66 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments above a semi-subterranean parking garage for 66 vehicles.

Safco entitled the project using Transit Oriented Communities development incentives, permitting reduced building setbacks and on-site open space in exchange for setting aside six apartments as deed-restricted affordable housing.

The Albert Group Architects is designing the contemporary podium-type building, which will be comprised of five levels of wood-frame construction above a concrete base.  The plaster-clad structure will include a rooftop amenity deck.

The project is the latest in a series of new housing developments now being built on Melrose Avenue in East Hollywood, including Affirmed Housing's Emerson apartments, a co-living project from Six Peak Capital, and a mixed-use complex from Andre Sabetfard.

Safco Capital, the developer of the apartment complex at Melrose and Ardmore, is planning three similar mixed-use and multifamily residential projects in Westlake.
