More than a year after razing a trio of small buildings in Koreatown, a local real estate investment firm has broke ground on a new apartment complex at 750-762 S. Kingsley Drive.

The project site, located just north of 8th Street, is approved for the construction of a six-story edifice containing 68 studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments - including six very low-income affordable units - above basement parking for 35 vehicles.

Warren Techentin Architecture is designing the podium-type development, which will be clad in black metal panels.  Plans call for several on-site amenities, including a central courtyard and a fitness center.

City records list the project's developer as an entity affiliated with Sabet Management Corp.

The L.A. Business Journal reported that Sabet obtained $15.2 million in construction financing for the project in July.

The Koreatown project joins several other mixed-use buildings now planned or under construction along 8th Street, including projects The Rise apartments and a development from Jamison Services, Inc. at Western Avenue.
