Los Angeles-based developer Palisades has tapped SOM and James Corner Field Operations to redesign the former Metropolitan Water District headquarters in Victor Heights as part of a larger mixed-use project focused on "innovative design, open space and community"
Located at 1111 West Sunset Boulevard, the 5.5-acre property features two buildings, both designed by the late architect William Pereira, which served as the MWD's home until the mid-1990s. The low-rise portion of the campus was eventually repurposed as a church, while an adjacent mid-rise tower was converted to apartments by local developer Linear City.
SOM has undertaken several reuse projects in Southern California in recent years, including Santa Monica's Pen Factory and the Desmond in South Park.
James Corner Field Operations will design the property's landscape and open spaces.
An official website has been launched at 1111sunsetblvd.com.
