After more than a year of construction, slow-but-steady progress is apparent at a new pocket park behind the Chinatown Library.
The project, funded as an expansion of the Alpine Recreation Center, repurposes a long-empty L-shaped property at Yale and Ord Streets as a half-acre of green space.
AHBE | MIG is designing the $8.5-million park, which uses terrace levels to adapt to steep grade changes across the property. The terraces offer different amenities, and a staircase connects the various levels.
The park has been in development for more than a decade.
The project site is located just north of the former site of the Velvet Turtle restaurant, which is now poised for a mixed-use development featuring apartments and ground-floor retail space.
