Just north of Marina del Rey in Venice, developer Thomas Safran & Associates has officially opened an affordable housing complex at the former site of the Thatcher Maintenance Yard.
Located on a 2.1-acre site at 3233 S. Thatcher Avenue, the project includes a buildings up to three stories featuring 98 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. Two-thirds of the residences are senior housing, with the remainder open to families.
Architect Steven Giannetti designed the Thatcher Yard apartments, while HED served as architect as record. The project gradually scales down in height moving west away from Lincoln Boulevard toward the adjacent single-family neighborhood, and includes a courtyard, a fitness center, community rooms, and common laundry facilities.
The project follows several recent affordable and supportive housing developments in the Venice neighborhood, including a 34-unit apartment building that recently opened on Rose Avenue and a 40-unit building at 2467 Lincoln Boulevard. Both of those projects were developed by Venice Community Housing Corp.
Thomas Safran & Associates is developing additional affordable housing in Arlington Heights, as well as at other locations within Los Angeles County.
