The City of El Monte is considering plans from two Los Angeles County-based firms to construct new hotels on Valley Boulevard.

The first project, which comes from a Rowland Heights-based entity called Zhonghong Zhaofeng USA Inc., would replace a commercial building and materials yard at 12300 Valley Boulevard.  Plans call for the construction of a four-story, 72-room Wingate hotel containing 72 guest rooms, basement and surface parking for 72 vehicles, and guest amenities such as a gift shop, a restaurant, a gym, and a rooftop deck.

Renderings show a nondescript low-rise structure, which elevation plans indicate is being designed by an entity called P.J. Design Square Architects.

The environmental report does not indicate a timeline or budget for the proposed hotel.

One block away at 12432 Valley Boulevard, Rosemead-based Welcome Investment, LLC has plans for its own hotel.

The proposed Holiday Inn Express would consist of another four-story building, featuring 97 guest rooms, basement parking for 97 vehicles, and other amenities such as a swimming pool, a gym, and a guest-serving restaurant.

Construction would occur over approximately 15 months, although a groundbreaking date has not been announced.

Both projects are currently in the environmental review stage, and have yet to receive full approvals from the City of El Monte.
