A flurry of construction activity is underway at the University of Southern California, as the $650 million USC Village expands the historic University Park campus onto a 15-acre site bounded by Jefferson Boulevard, McClintock Avenue, 30th and Hoover Streets.

To make way for one of five buildings included in the Village's first phase, USC recently undertook the moving a historic fire station which has been located on the property since 1950.  On October 6th, crews from American Heavy Moving & Rigging placed the facade of the 65-year-old LAFD Station 15 on a flatbed truck in order to transport it to its new home on a formerly vacant lot near the Shrine Auditorium.

Going forward, the historic building will serve as an 8,700-square-foot production facility for the Robert Zemeckis Center for Digital Arts.

A replacement fire station has already been built at the southeast corner of 30th and Hoover Streets.  The 17,000-square-foot Italian Romanesque building was dedicated in a grand open ceremony last month.
