Construction is nearing completion for the new home of the Westside Family YMCA at the southwest corner of the University High School campus.
The $20-million project, located at the intersection of Westgate and Ohio Avenues, consists of a 76,000-square-foot building that will offer a gymnasium, office space, exercise room, indoor swimming pools, classrooms, a rooftop track and a basketball court.
According to Oltmans Construction Co., the low-rise structure is composed of tilt-up panels, cast-in-place concrete, a curved copper roof and a glass curtain wall, amongst other materials.
Pasadena-based Gonzalez Goodale Architects designed the project.
The YMCA is relocating from its former home on Sawtelle Boulevard, which was razed by developer California Landmark Group to make way for a new residential-retail complex.
