Construction has progressed to the sixth floor above ground-level on Topaz, an upcoming residential-retail complex in Downtown's Historic Core.
The project, located on an approximately .92-acre site at 550 S. Main Street, is being developed by Los Angeles-based Jade Enterprises. Plans call for a seven-story building feature 159 studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments above approximately 23,000 square feet of ground-level commercial space. Other features will include a fitness center, a media room, a swimming pool and multiple outdoor courtyards.
Topaz, designed by Tate Snyder Kimsey Architects, would appear to be two different developments when viewed from street level. To the east, along Los Angeles Street, the building will feature a large urban window and light curtain for visual interest. To the west, along Main Street, renderings portray a more conservative design, accented by a vertical blade sign.
Completion of Topaz is expected by late 2016.
Jade Enterprises, which is headquartered in Downtown, has recently become an active participant in the neighborhood's residential construction boom. In addition to Topaz, the company is also in the midst of construction on the Onyx development near Pico Station, and has filed plans for similar projects in City West and South Park.
