On July 13, the City of Pasadena broke ground on a $1.2-million project which is intended to restore the 22-mile trail system centered on the Arroyo Seco.

The One Arroyo Trail Critical Linkages project, which is being carried out in partnership with the One Arroyo Foundation, is expected to address deterioration to the existing trail network, which includes 1,000 acres of urban forest.

"We are thrilled to initiate this project, which not only enhances the safety and accessibility of our trails but also preserves the natural beauty of the Arroyo Seco for generations to come," said Pasadena Mayor Victor M. Gordo in a news release. "This project represents a significant investment in our community's health, well-being, and enjoyment of our unique urban open space."

Work that started this weekend will include debris and erosion clearances on roughly 3.5 miles of trail, as well as improvements to existing road crossings, footbridges, wayfinding, and landscaping. Plans also call for the creation of natural seating and learning spaces for users of the trails.

Funding sources for the project include an allocation from the State of California and a grant from the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy.
