One year after we last stopped by, the wrapping is off at the MW Lofts development in Pasadena's Playhouse District.

Located at 711 Walnut Street, the new mixed-use project from Prominent Development consists of a six-story structure that will feature 115 housing units above 14,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space at completion. Basement parking also sits below the podium-type building.

Tyler + Kelly Architecture is designing the project, which sits at Walnut's intersection with El Molino Avenue. Renderings of the finished product show cantilevered rail balconies and stone accents on its exterior, as well as a 250-foot-long pedestrian arcade will line lining the ground-floor retail frontage. Plans also call for a rooftop amenity deck.

The MW Lofts project, acquired for $11 million in 2016, is one of a handful of new projects from Pasadena-based Prominent Development, including a similar mixed-use housing complex slated to replace a surface parking lot at 254 E. Union Street.

The project is one of several recent additions to the Playhouse District, including two apartment buildings across Walnut Street completed by Greystar and 400 apartments built as part of the 100 West Walnut development.
